Julia Mensch in collaboration with visual artist Lucila Gradín

During my first research trip (2022-2023) and with the support of artist Lucila Gradín, I developed pigments from Amaranth plants collected in the different fields I visited. I created twenty-four pigments. My goal in creating these pigments was to gain a deeper understanding of my vegetal companion from a different perspective, by transforming various species into colours. It was interesting to observe that, even though all the obtained colors were similar (indicating a substantial similarity between wild and cultivated Amaranth species), the starker colors belonged to the pigments obtained from wild Amaranth plants.
